To celebrate this auspicious year of the Dragon, Lush has created Red Dragon Soap. An apt product, certainly, seeing that 2012 is the year of the water dragon. (Soap+water, get it?)
To complement the Lunar New Year festival, the brand has made this decorative soap in the Karma scent, a fragrance with oriental and spicy notes (patchouli, lemongrass, orange oil and pine). Each piece is also dusted with gold powder, gold being a colour of prosperity.
In Singapore, this special edition soap retails at S$20.80 (100 g/3.5 oz). Quite pricey, if you ask me – they are only US$7.95 in the US.
Though I like Lush Karma soap, I’m not inclined to these dragon soap cakes. The gold dust flies everywhere and the shape isn’t very dragon-like…the bulbous bars on the plate look very much like pieces of fatty meat to me. :P
It’s a neat idea by Lush but poorly executed, unfortunately. I would’ve certainly bought them if they’d looked more 像样 (presentable/decent)!

Very auspicious, lol!
Hey Jamilla,
I wish they were prettier, though! :P
Lolx! at first I tot i was looking at a seahorse that eaten too much, then i saw a plate of red crabs or lobster sprinkled with gold dust! Auspicious indeed… hahax~
Hey Jones,
Haha, that’s so cute! It does look like a booi booi seahorse. :P
I’m amused by the different observations – Sara (icyabstract) also said they look like crabs, while Evonne (Evonnz) said they look like bak kwa (how appropriate, hehehe!).
Strange that this soap is not on the Lush UK website! It seems quite overpriced, nice concept but after reading your description, the attractiveness certainly waned for me!
Hey Iris,
I’m not sure why, either. Maybe there’re more Chinese in the US? :P I wish it were cuter or at least more distinct.
Wow, quite expensive! I think I’d like a CNY themed bath ballistic better though :)
Hi Sam,
Yep! Is this sold in Oz, do you know?
What’s your idea of a CNY bath bomb? ;)
I also thought I was looking at a plate of red crabs! :D
Hi Milktea,
Very salah lor. Then again, crabs for the festive season isn’t so wrong…haha!
I haven’t seen it, but I’m on a enforced shopping ban due to a fall I had! I’d love to see something red with gold sparkles (large, so they don’t stick to the bath so easily) for a bath ballistic.
Oh no, Sam; I’m so sorry to hear that you had a fall. Do take care. That sounds a pretty bath ballistic! :)
