Pupa Holiday 2009 Black & Gold Collection

Pupa Holiday 2009 Black and Gold Collection

Pupa’s holiday 2009 collection, Black & Gold, centres on the allure of these eponymous colours. Harking back to the mystique of the 1940s and 50s, this collection – from packaging to product – reeks of decadence.

Pupa Holiday 2009 Shimmering Powder

The Shimmering Powder (S$40+) caught my eye when I saw the collection at Bugis Junction last night. Its atomiser bottle releases a dust of gold sparkles when the bulb is gently squeezed, reminiscent of the Guerlain Sublime Radiant Powder range, albeit not as exquisite-looking.

Pupa Black and Gold Luminys Baked Eyeshadows

What really stole my heart was the range of  four Luminys Eyeshadows (S$29 each) released with Black & Gold.

A blend of colourful sparkles infused in a bed of black and coloured by accent shades (golden purple, antique gold, midnight blue, taupe green), the eyeshadows are the winners of this collection. Reminiscent of MAC Style Black Mineralized Eye Shadows, these eye lovelies up the amp with their intensely inky base and the multi-coloured shimmer/glitter (there’s a bit of both in these shadows). I actually prefer the texture and strong pigmentation of the Pupa baked shadows to the MAC MESes.

Pupa Shiny Eyeliner in 01

Special mention must also be given to the Shiny Eyeliner in 01 (S$29). This water-resistant black pencil is not only rich in colour, it also glides wonderfully on the skin. The high coverage it affords is apparent in one swipe of the nib and it makes a wonderful base for the shadows, allowing the sparkles to pop. I was particularly surprised by how moist it looks and feels. It reminds me of MAC Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline but seems to be a tad tackier.

Swatches of the shadows to come soon! ;)
