Of the four items in the La Clarée Oliv’ box I was sent to try, the Moisturising Face Cream (50 ml/S$34.90) is my favourite. Smooth, moisturising and easy to apply, this has to be one of the best facial moisturisers I’ve used in a while (next on my list to try is Steam Cream!).
I like it because:
1. It contains nourishing ingredients.
Like the other products in the Oliv’ range, this face cream contains antioxidant properties, thanks to the inclusion of olive leaf extracts, green tea and edelweiss. Macadamia and jojoba oils regenerate and smooth skin, while aloe vera juice and shea butter moisturise. Algae extract impart radiance and other natural ingredients such as palmarosa, cedar and citrus essential oils pamper the skin.
2. The ingredients are sourced naturally.
Like many of Oliv’ products, 99% of the total ingredients are of natural origin, while 30% of the total ingredients are from organic agriculture.
3. The brand is certified.
Internationally-recognised symbols are associated with this brand, conveying product assurance and an organic and ecological stamp of approval.
4. It is readily absorbed by the skin.
The cream sinks into my skin easily, soothing post-cleansing dryness. There is no sticky after-feel.
5. My skin looks supple the morning after.
This is supposed to be a day cream but I often find it effective for night-time use.
6. It makes a good pre-makeup base.
Skin takes well to it and it doesn’t leave a sticky film. Instead, it helps make a nice canvas for foundation and powder.
7. It comes in a hygienic squeeze tube.
A glass jar usually looks more sophisticated, where skincare is concerned. For a European/French brand, one would expect something classier than a plastic tube. However, the practicality of the tube and the ease of use it affords far outweigh the aesthetic demands. A glass receptacle may keep the integrity of the ingredients but the idea of digging into a pot can be a deterrent at times.
The olive sheen of the tube does give it a slightly expensive demeanour, setting it apart from the more common white tubes that line drugstore shelves.
8. It has a pleasant scent.
I didn’t like the scent at first but it grew on me so much that I now love the subtle fragrance (a nice mix of shea butter, olive and aloe).
9. My clients like it.
I use it on them pre-makeup. Not only do they like its soothing sensation, they like its scent too. A stage actress once told me that her face looked radiant the following morning, thanks to this (it was the only thing out of her skincare regime that she’d used, hence her verdict).
10. It is relatively affordable.
For a high quality face cream that works and is easy to dispense, a little more than S$30 is a reasonable price to pay.
