When I saw Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Prism (slate blue shimmer/black with micro glitter) on offer at Sephora Singapore, I hesitated – even at 50% off, it cost S$41 (its original price is S$82 here and US$38 in the States). However, I’m really pleased that I caved – this duo is truly beautiful, both inside and out.
The first thing that caught my attention was the sleek packaging characteristic of Hourglass cosmetics. A reflective bronzed pewter (♥!), the flat compact houses two eyeshadow pans placed side by side, each with an imprint of one half of an hourglass to form a full one. Très, très chic!
Makeup gadgetry is in its 360° swivel lid – check out how it can twist and turn! Granted it’s a little gimmicky but I love it, all the same. :D
A little grey and a little blue, the slate hue in the duo is also accented with a hint of lavender. Incredibly soft and blendable, I fell in love with this satiny shade as soon as I swatched it. It’s so workable that I’ve used it to rectify contour shades that are too stark or bright.
The black has multi-coloured sparkles but they aren’t so chunky that they fall off. In fact, I’ve found them to stay on well, when pressed into a semi-tacky liner/base. The black is less smooth than the slate but it blends out nicely into a charcoal.
These complementary shades can be used alone or together. They can also be wet for greater intensity.
Here is an easy eye with Prism:
- The slate on the lid over a blue cream shadow base (I think I used MAC Metal-X in MetalBlu) and blended into the socket
- The black on the upper lashline over Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero, blended upwards and into the slate
- The black over the same pencil on the lower lashline
- A Nature Republic Prism Star Dot Eye Shadow in an iridescent beige from socket to brow, to finish the look!
Wow that looks quite intense and highly-pigmented and the close-up of your eye is super pretty too
Thank you, Anna!
It can be found online at Sephora.com and hourglasscosmetics.com. :)
That looks stunning. I’ll have to use a blue pearlglide under it now that I see what you’ve done.
Hi Marcia,
Try that; the colour will pop! I love this duo. :)
@makeupmag: Thanks for the links, but I live in Germany and Sephora doesn’t ship to Germany, so does Hourglass Cosmetics ^^
Hi Anna,
I’m sorry to hear that. I hope it finds its way to you soon. You do have great stuff in Germany – so many lovely waterproof pencils and makeup artist lines like Makeup Factory and Art Deco.
Oh you look Art Deco? Hahahaha I don’t like any of the drugstore brands we have here. Are you able to get Art Deco stuff in Singapore?
Hi Anna,
It used to be available here but I think we can no longer find it here. I have a couple of shadows and a pencil from the brand. :)
Love the cols on you! You are really rocking smokys!!!
I was fascinated by their yummy foody lipgloss in scent as well as colour & texture & esp the packaging! But I never got it coz I am sure it will squirt & spill everywhere in my pouch no thx to the really sleek non functional packaging. :/
Thanks, Farah! :) They seem to suit me better than the brights I used to wear. I still do the latter once in a while for fun, though.
Which lipgloss – the wand or flat squeeze tube one? The flat one is quite ok.
Whenever you need something from Germany, just feel free to send me a message. It’d be a pleasure for me to do your make-up shopping here hahah
Hi Anna,
Thank you for your generous offer. :)
I like smokys over brights too now & I also think they work better but I do my brights once in a while.
http://hourglasscosmetics.com/index.php?type=lips&item=lips_prodigy this one! I think if there is pressure on the tube or cap, it will send cap flying off & squirt gloss all over.
Hi Farah,
I’m about to review one of them! ;)
The col of the one I saw is super gorgeous nude, total LOVE! One day when I am not so anal abt packaging I will get it! & lookG forward to your review!
Hey Farah,
Was it Eden? That’s the one I’ll be reviewing.
It could be! Looks like it in the swatch!
Hi,
How would you compare the black shade in this duo with Kose Addiction’s Neverland or Stardust or Star Vega? Thanks. I am looking for a black shade, so, I am just curious. Thanks.
Hi Daisy,
I don’t own either of those shadows from Addiction, so I can’t compare them – sorry! If you’d like a fuss-free matte black, try MAC Carbon. For one with silver shimmer, try MAC Black Tied.
