Lancôme Illuminating Smooth Powder in La Roseraie (Bed of Roses)

Je vois la vie en rose…

Here is La Roseraie, an exquisite face palette from Lancôme’s Spring 2012 collection.

At first glance, the glimmering surface seems to explain its illuminator label but it is also a blush, thanks to the pretty pink tones of the signature Lancôme rose.

The overspray is a very cool-toned pink that reveals a satin, slightly warmer – but still somewhat cool – pink; a baby pink with hints of peach, if you will. It’s a wearable shade that is great on fair ladies but a little more swirling will pick up more pigment for the medium-toned makeup maven.

The radial lines might seem almost glittery initially but the silvery overspray actually gives way to a satin-matte pink-tinged shell shade.

The shimmer is obvious upon first use and with the next few uses too. However, the rose and its rays settle down to a softly matte texture. The pigments are very finely-milled, so the effect isn’t dulled; rather the refined quality of the product gives it a silky touch and a satin appearance for a translucent finish. Lightly swirled, they impart a rosy glow, while a denser brush and layering give a wearable blush shade.

Depending on where you lay down your brush, you will either obtain a delicate pink blush shade or a rose-tinged beige highlighter hue. If you choose to, you can use the two tones separately by wearing the pastel pink on the apples of the cheeks, gently sculpting with the paler hue.

If you’re fond of shimmer and sparkle in your illuminators, this is not the palette for you. If, however, you enjoy an unobtrusive glow with a touch of colour, I think you will like this product very much. Its quiet nature makes it appropriate for the workplace and serious/formal occasions as it imparts a polished and flattering blush flush. I don’t own anything like it – a pleasant discovery for me – so I welcome this understated beauty to my stash. :)

I swatched my preview sample pretty hard, to test if the print would disappear easily. I’m glad to say that while the overspray doesn’t last, the etchings remain intact for the most part.

In Singapore, this limited edition palette retails at S$90 and can be found at Lancôme counters located at Robinsons Centrepoint, Robinsons Raffles City, Tangs Orchard and Takashimaya.
