Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura Mon Shu Collection for Holiday 2012

A collaboration between fashion maestro Karl Lagerfeld and beauty brand Shu Uemura, this Holiday 2012 collection is a meeting of artistic minds.

Hand-drawn by Lagerfeld, Mon Shu Girl or Mon Shu Uemura graces all the products in the collection. The name apparently means ‘my darling Shu Uemura’.

I find the doll a touch creepy; doesn’t help that le monsieur is giving off that vibe too. :P Someone actually asked me if it was intentional that the collection launched around Halloween…oops!

Here’s the whimsical video chronicling her birth. Thankfully, she’s much cuter as a cartoon/2-D character. :)

Fairly extensive, this collection comprises point makeup, tools and skincare.

The shadow palettes might look a touch blah at first glance but you must swatch them and give them a go: Not only are they smooth and pigmented, they blend well and make for creative eye looks with their interesting colour combinations. On the left is the Karl for Shu Smoky Velvet Eyeshadow Palette, while on the right is the Karl for Shu Prestigious Bordeaux Eyeshadow Palette.

The special edition Mon Shu Eyelash Curler has a cute little Mon Shu charm. Unlike the regular Made-in-Japan curlers though, this one is made in Taiwan. I don’t know if it works the same but the red rubber pad is a plus point in that it helps you to see your lashes more clearly pre-clamping. It reminds me of the Kevyn Aucoin Beauty Eye Lash Curler which has the same feature.

The Mon Shu Premium Eyelashes with the distinctive geometric print of the collection are eye-catching, to say the least. I like their subtle flair and paper-like cut.

The Mon Shu Nail Colors come in black, red and nude – wearable shades that mirror the Mon Shu colour theme. The accompanying nail stickers are fun accents.

Here’s the doll again. It’s actually up for auction but I’m not sure if it’s already found an owner.

And here’s the Mon Shu Girl brooch. The red eyes are a bit much but she does grow on me after a while. I like her tie and red lips – very modern chic!
