The MAC In Extra Dimension collection for 2013 has arrived on our sunny shores at last.
As with last year’s collection, the pieces are embossed with the MAC text-logo and feature the undulant surface that distinguishes them from other MAC products.
Eye Shadow (S$37)
- Extra Silver – True silver
- Triple Impact – Opalescent lavender with violet pearl
- Zestful – Pale iridescent lime
- Opalesse – Opalescent white with pink pearl
- Dimensional Blue – Frosty blue
- Smoky Mauve – Mid-tone cool mauve
The eyeshadows are gorgeous under warm lighting, twinkling every which way. Thanks to their opalescent finish, they also pop beautifully over dark-coloured bases, giving off an iridescent glow.
Skinfinish (S$50)
- Definitely Defined – Silvery pink/soft rose with shimmer
- Shape The Future – Pastel pink with iridescence/soft brick with light shimmer
- Double Definition – Soft shimmery gold/patina bronze
Often the first to be sold out, these Skinfinishes contain two tones in each pan, making pretty blush/bronzer-highlighting duos. They are a touch frosty, so a light hand (or the MAC 187 duo-fibre brush) is recommended with them.
Blush (S$41)
- Bareness – Rosy beige
- Blazing Haute – Dirty peach
- Flaming Chic – Bright blue pink
- At Dusk – Mid-tone rose
- Fiery Impact – Burnt red bronze
Though the eyeshadows and illuminators seem to be the highlights of this collection, what really caught my attention were the blushes with their satiny-soft finish and gentle glow. Unlike the rest of the collection, these aren’t loaded with shimmer or sparkles; instead, they have a pretty and understated glimmer that stole my heart.
Here’s my modest haul: Blush in At Dusk and Skinfinish in Definitely Defined. Also pictured is MAC Lip Pencil in Nightmoth, a deep blackened plum that was sold out at Tangs Orchard but available at the NAC free-standing store. I was taken with this lipliner when I saw it in one of MAC’s backstage photos and couldn’t help but want it!
Do note that this beauteous lot is limited edition – you know what to do! ;) Nevertheless, here’s a caveat: Although last year’s collection was purportedly sold out, some items resurfaced recently at the Estée Lauder sale which included MAC. So if you are willing to wait and brave the crowds, you might be able to find them for less. No guarantees, of course. To be honest, I would rather pay for them at the counter than to jostle and queue.
Special thanks to Sara for her patient swatches on my arm while I was cradling my sleeping baby in the sling! Do also look out for Eliza‘s blog post on this collection – the colours stand out wonderfully on her chocolate skin tone. :)
The blushes look gorgeous Mag.
Hey Jac,
They are really soft and satiny!
Awww no worries about it and thank you for letting me swatch on your hands so I can admire the colors! haha
Hey Sara,
That was an awesome afternoon, wasn’t it? :D
PS: So sorry for the late response – still under the weather, ugh!
