I was quite excited to see the new Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color Shines when I visited the brand’s Tangs Orchard boutique recently.
With a promise to moisturise and condition the lips, they are apparently formulated with rare and exotic ingredients such as soja (soya) seed extract, chamomile oil and Brazilian murumuru butter (murumuru is a Brazillian palm).
Sheer-to-medium in colour payoff, these semi-transparent lipsticks are softer counterparts to the richer Tom Ford Beauty Lip Colors. I particularly like their luminous sheen.
- 01 Chastity – a cool pastel pink
- 02 Smitten – a warm pink with a touch of peach
- 03 Quiver – a cool pale rose
- 04 Ravenous – a soft fuchsia
- 05 Bare – a dusty beige
- 06 Abandon – a brown peach, warm mid-tone nude
- 07 Nubile – a rosy brown with an underlying terracotta warmth
- 08 Frolic – a neutral pink beige
- 09 Insidious – a pale apricot pink
- 10 Willful – a rich cherry red, much like a Maraschino cherry
They all have refined shimmer in them, with the sparkles being mostly gold, though some are cooler in tone. The beautiful reflects, while not conspicuous on the lips, add interesting dimension.
They aren’t exceptional – the shades are so very, very safe. That said, their texture is quite buttery and the lustre a draw. If you love such formulas and want an everyday lippy from a luxe brand, they are definitely something to look at. Also, the heft + feel of the slim angular tubes = swoon! If you’re looking for something more unique and don’t want to splurge on not-so-uncommon colours; move on, move on. ;)
The only one that really appealed to me was Bare, thanks to its slight grey undertone that would be lovely with smokey eye looks. It also has gold sparkles that offer a subtle glimmer under the light. I couldn’t help but purchase it, even as I baulked at its price!
Like the brand’s permanent lipstick range, they retail at S$70 in Singapore. Karlasugar has lovely swatches of these lippies too; do visit her website to read her thoughts on them.
Hehe I am moving on, honestly my first TF lipstick wasn’t an earth shattering experience for me. I think I’ll stick to the eye palettes.
Which one was that, Jac? The eyeshadows are complex as a whole and definitely good purchases. I love a good luxe lipstick once in a while and will splurge (as I did on this one) but if I had to choose, it’d be the shadows that I’d go for. Plus, lippies don’t last as long! ;)
I unrealistically want Quiver. I know it would be a mistake though.
Hey Mar,
I know exactly where you’re coming from – and I like that you said ‘unrealistically’, it made me smile! The thing about this particular range is the lack of the wow factor (I’m channelling the latest Modern Family ep) and yet, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the shine and the luxe packaging.
If I had to choose 1 shade from this range, it would be 04 Ravenous.
Hi Ruby,
That’s a an excellent choice. Hot pinks are always lovely and this one – being sheerer – takes the ‘shock’ out of such a pink, while retaining the tone. ;)
Ouch on the price! I do like the look of Ravenous and Willful though, so perhaps it will be a splurge item…
Tell me about it, Sam! But I do love its glide and easy-to-wear nature. :) Good choices, both! Happy shopping! :)
