If you love sparkles in a multitude of colours, you need this palette!
I haven’t raved unreservedly about a product in a while but this quad has stolen my heart with its multi-dimensional, shadow-transforming hues.
A palette of mineral and crystalline colours, inspired by the brilliance of precious stones.
– YSL Beauté
Part of the brand’s Arty Stone Collection for Spring 2013, it is a veritable rainbow in a palette.
In it are:
Malachite – An intense, profound green
Fluorite – A powdery, iridescent rose with a hint of pink sparkle
Amethyst – A fresh, smoky violet
Azurite – A metallic, lustrous blue
The 4 colours already look like a fun party in the compact but put brush or finger to the pans and you will see the beautiful kaleidoscopic sparkle that I’ve fallen in love with.
Here they are, swatched dry. They’re sheer to semi-sheer, offering a soft veil of colour.
Here they are, swatched wet. They’re a little more intense but there’s not much of a detraction from the dry version. The photos are slightly blurry, so you can see the micro-glitter.
They probably look a little ho-hum to eyeshadow veterans but they come to life on the eyes. Below are 4 different looks I created with this eyeshadow compact using different bases and techniques. As you can see, it’s quite a versatile palette. (Click on the individual eye photos to see the sparkles at their best!)
Look 1: Over a clear eyeshadow base (Too Faced Shadow Insurance)
This is a sweet pastel look, the sparkles popping beautifully to add interest to the pale tones.
Look 2: Over a black eyeliner as a base, blended out to soft grey
This is a soft but unusual smokey eye, thanks to the interplay of the 4 different hues.
Look 3: Over a strong black cream eyeshadow (Shiseido Shimmering Cream Eye Color in BK912 Caviar)
My favourite look of the 4, this is a strong but complex smokey eye with striking prismatic reflects.
Look 4: Over green and pink eyeliners as bases
A fun eye-catching look, the pencil bases help the corresponding tones to pop. The refined glitter also shows up incredibly well over them.
In Singapore, this quad, like all the other YSL Pure Chromatics palettes, retails at S$88. It’s limited edition, so I urge you to snap it up before it’s completely sold out.
What a beautiful palette Mag. I love how it looks over a black base, trust you to create so many beautiful looks!
Thank you, dear Jac! I love it so much that I used it for a few days consecutively – that’s a long time, given the number of shadow choices I have! ;)
You had me at “If you love sparkles”!! Yes I do, and I loved that you did so many looks for this review, and kept them simple to really showcase the shadows. I’m loving your look #3.This is a shadow I would go look for and buy now!!!!
I came here from your Instagram contest (happy birthday); my IG is GothicCzarina and I would most love to win the Ingenious Palette with Detachable Compacts.
Hi Rachel,
Thank you! This palette surprised me in the most beautiful way. :)
Love these colors! :) I haven’t been able to try anything from the brand, but I’ve heard nothing but great things. I love the colors and diversity of the palette! Awesome blog. :)
