Here’s a look at the Estée Lauder Derek Lam Collection for Spring/Summer 2014.
A runway collaboration by New York fashion designer Derek Lam and Estée Lauder’s Tom Pecheux to commemorate their decade-long professional partnership, it actually previewed during NY Fashion Week. (The EL Instagram account offered sneak peeks during that fashion season.)
This nifty set comprises five eye and lip makeup items encased in a minaudière. The navy satin hard-case clutch, designed by Derek Lam, features his signature dumbbell clasp. It’s sturdy and well-constructed, a good reason to purchase this set if you’re a fan of his.
Tucked inside are:
- The Kajal Crayon in Near Night
- The EyeShadow in Smoked Gold
- The Gloss in Barely Gold
- The LipColor in Smoked Blush
- The Mascara in Black Black
The names are chic, having dispensed with the usual number-naming. ;)
Of the five products, I especially like the chubby crayon with its deep blackened navy hue and the gold crème eyeshadow with its warm sparkles. The pencil is almost smudgeproof but offers blending time before it sets, while the cream shadow lasts fairly long and doesn’t smear off easily. They pair well, forming a beautiful teal when blended together.
The lip shades aren’t the ones I gravitate towards but the liquid lipstick is plush and pigmented, while the gloss (mostly translucent with a smattering of gold glitter) gives it a silky sheen.
The mascara is probably the most disappointing of the five – it offers just a hint of definition to my paltry lashes. Nonetheless, it pulls the look together and I suppose 4/5 isn’t too bad a score.
In Singapore, this set is available from February 2014. I don’t have the price just yet but will update here when I do. :)
