Good news, makeup mavens! Metro will be having a storewide 20% discount on its items this weekend on 1 and 2 August 2008 (Friday & Saturday).
This is a good opportunity to stock up on makeup from brands such as Anna Sui, Biotherm, Clinique, Christian Dior, Clarins, Elizabeth Arden, Estée Lauder, Ettusais, Givenchy, Kanebo, Kose, Lancome, Laneige, i nuovi, ModelCo, Murad, Origins, Rouge Bunny Rouge, Shiseido/Shiseido Maquillage, Shu Uemura, Sisley, SKII and Yves St Laurent...among others! :)
Some drugstore brands can be found in Metro, so you can get them during this time as well.
Be aware that this 20% discount is not always a direct one. That is, you sometimes get back 20% of the total purchase in the form of a rebate voucher.
Here is an example of how Metro's rebate voucher is issued:
If you spend S$100 on items from a counter brand, you pay the full price of S$100. However, you get back S$20 (20% of S$100) in the form of a voucher to be spent any time – usually anywhere* – in the store.
It makes economic sense, of course; to spend it during such a sale, so as to take advantage of the 20% discount.
If the brand of the item that you buy offers a direct discount, you simply pay the discounted price; that is, 80% of its original price (or 20% off its original price).
Remember: The nature of the discount depends on the brand of the item(s) that you buy.
As a rule, counter brands do not offer a direct discount although I remember Anna Sui and Clarins doing so. I recently found out that Elizabeth Arden, Givenchy and Murad do so, as well.

HAPPY SHOPPING!
* It is generally understood that Metro does not allow the use of the rebate voucher on a repeat purchase of items from the brand that gave you the voucher in the first place. For example, if you purchase S$100 worth of Kanebo products, the S$20 voucher which you will receive cannot be used to purchase or offset further Kanebo purchases.
However, you may be able to circumvent this by:
* Not using the voucher immediately at the same cashier counter
* Using the voucher at another cashier counter in the same Metro store
* Using the voucher at another Metro store
* Not using the voucher immediately at the same cashier counter
* Using the voucher at another cashier counter in the same Metro store

But then hor no discount liao. Really need to go HK and do major stockup!;P
There's a YSL counter at Tangs. Wait for 12%? ;)
