Hello Kitty Confectionery Makeup Pouches

To celebrate Sanrio’s 50th anniversary, Takashimaya Singapore is currently holding a Sanrio fiesta. Believe me when I say there was a frenzy going on, when I was there recently – people were grabbing Sanrio paraphernalia like nobody’s business (Hello Kitty merchandise was flying off the shelves) and the place was absolutely packed.

Amidst the crowd, I spotted these Hello Kitty makeup pouches printed with cute images of confectionery.

They have a sweet sentence printed on them too: There’s a spot in my heart for your smile. Aww! Given the Japanese penchant for bizarre English phrases (aka Japlish), it makes syntactic sense, surprisingly. ;)

These pink pouches actually reminded me of the Rilakkuma pouch I’d purchased a while back. If I remember correctly, they cost twice as much as the latter. Ah, the power of the mouthless cat…

I think the Rilakkuma version looks prettier, though!

so cute!!! i live in Japan, so i know all about the bizarre engrish. I’ve also been an avid Hello Kitty collector (ok.. FANATIC) since I was 4, and Hello Kitty’s English always makes sense! It can be a bit cheesy or a little too warm and fuzzy, but I guess they made the smart decision and have someone check their English.

      Hi Ashley!

I really enjoyed reading your reply. :) The lack of Engrish sets Hello Kitty apart from the other kawaii characters too, I guess. I wonder if it’s the same for the other Sanrio characters. I can’t really remember – I’m more of a San-X fan! ;)
