Review | Hourglass Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss in Eden

Hourglass Cosmetics recently sent me three products to review, one of which is its Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss in Eden. I’d seen this range at Sephora Singapore and was quite taken with its sleek packaging. Flat and compact, the plastic case is in the same bronzed pewter that colours the brand’s packaging.

A gentle squeeze easily releases the gloss through the angled nib. As nifty as it looks though, it is necessary to be careful when capping the gloss – replacing the cap at the wrong angle can result in an unpleasant mess. The flat edges also mean that there is minimal grip without applying pressure on the main section of the case, so delicate balancing (and plain getting-used-to-it) is a must.

It’s a touch unwieldy but packaging foibles aside, this moisturising lipgloss feels very comfortable on the lips (thank you, Vitamin E!). The shine it imparts makes the lips look lush but not laminated. It has glide, yet does not slip off in an instant – something I appreciate in a gloss.

Eden is a pearlised medium caramel with pink accents. On its own, this sheer-to-medium coverage gloss is a great YLBB product on me. I like that it also works with my very cool lippies – thanks to its warmer tones, it neutralises them to give me a beautiful nude lip that goes well with many of my eye looks. That said, it is surprisingly not as brown as it looks in the tube (of the three, the photo above most accurately depicts the shade). I’d say it’s one of those lip products that works for both cool and warm skintones.

It is priced at S$39 here, while it is US$26 in the US (it isn’t terribly marked up, thank  goodness). If the packaging novelty appeals to you and if you’re looking for silky comfort in a versatile nude lipgloss, Eden might be something to consider.
