Review | The Body Shop Shimmer Cubes Palette in 20 Blue Moon

The Body Shop Singapore recently sent me Shimmer Cubes Palette in 20 Blue Moon, one of the latest quads in their range of Shimmer Cubes.

Essentially four complementary colours in individual plastic cubes with lids, they fit neatly into another plastic box to make a quad. Very cute and compact but they are a touch unwieldy to use – imagine removing and replacing the covers, while fumbling with the tiny cubes…and you have to be careful because the colour cubes can fall out of their cases.

On the upside, however, you can easily bring out one choice colour or two (the lids are quite secure) without having to carry the entire box with you.

This shadow set is made in Italy, the origin of many baked beauties. I don’t think they’re baked, though – they don’t have the porous pan base that distinguishes baked makeup.

The quad comprises:

  • 01 Indigo Blue, a smokey indigo
  • 02 Starlight Silver, a twinkly silver
  • 03 Snow White, a shimmery pure white
  • 04 Midnight Black, a sparkly charcoal

They wear fairly well and will pop over eyeshadow bases. I actually like how they wear on their own – the blue and grey tones make an excellent soft smokey eye, while the silver and white impart a twinkle that’s very pretty under the light.

You can see their subtle effect in this fotd of mine.

Here are the swatches in different lighting – see the ultramarine shift in the blue and the pewter hint in the charcoal?

Blue Moon retails at S$36.90 (that’s about S$9.20 per 3.5 g cube) but the brand has periodic offers where the cubes go for less.

In fact, from now till 18 September 2011, the purchase of any two TBS makeup products – including any item from the Extra Virgin Minerals foundation range – entitles you to a 20% discount! ;)

Hi, do you find that their shimmery cube having some smell? I dunno how to describe the smell. I’m afraid mine is expired already as I bought it during recent sale :(

      Hi Enywu,

There is a certain scent but it isn’t one of makeup gone bad. Powder items usually last quite long. However, if you have your reservations, it’s best to do a skin test (try it on your inner arm) before using it on the eye.
