Clarins UV Plus HP SPF 40 Day Screen High Protection in Beige

This year, the award-winning Clarins UV Plus HP SPF 40 Day Screen High Protection sunscreen range welcomes a beige-tinted version. Joining the current sunscreens in Neutral and Tinted, Beige promises to give more coverage, minimising the appearance of facial redness and blemishes.

Like its predecessors, it is a lightweight mineral sunscreen. Similarly, it has anti-pollution properties and is formulated with the same extract from a Provençal cantaloupe (rock melon) which imbues it with the antioxidant superoxide dismutase, an enzyme that fights toxic residues from oxygen, to protect the skin against visible signs of premature ageing.

If the shades suit your skin tone, this trio practically offers comprehensive sun protection choices for the face:

This clear sunscreen is perfect for a transparent finish or as an untinted makeup base. Last year, my makeup artist pal Larry Yeo and I both independently voted this the best sunscreen in an issue of The Straits Times Urban. I love how it makes my face look dewy (and a notch younger!). It doesn’t stay the oilies, though – that dewiness does give way to a shiny appearance after some time. Nonetheless, I love this so much that I’ve purchased another bottle and will probably repurchase it for as long as Clarins continues making it.

This version helps to brighten a dull complexion and is great for when you just want to even out your skin tone a bit but not bother with makeup. Unfortunately, it’s become too pale for me, so I frequently reach for Neutral instead.

This one gives light coverage and evens out the skin tone well, skirting the foundation category. Its texture is as delightfully light as that of the other two, which is a huge plus. Sadly, it’s too fair for me.

It’d be great if the brand comes up with a range of shades in this stellar formula. Deeper shades appear to exist in the United States. I do hope that they eventually make their way to Singapore.

Like the first two sunscreens, this beige-tinted version is 30 ml and retails at S$74 in Singapore.

I was quite surprised at the coverage of this new addition! I have to use it sparingly, a very thin layer only, else it can look thick and masky.
