Hello Kitty Diamond Gloss

Here are three shades from the Hello Kitty Diamond Gloss range, sparkly fruit-scented lipglosses that come in acid hues.

Made in Italy, they have a roller-ball dispenser that reminds me of glossy balms. They behave much like the latter too: they are emollient and deliver virtually no colour. The glitter, while pretty, appears quite sparsely on the lips. I tried to swatch my press samples but all I could get was a slick of clear gloss with a glint of sparkle here and there.

Pictured above are Strawberry Fields, Pink Paradise, Blueberry Nights, Orange Mecanique, Lemon Incest, Pink Paradise, Big Apple, Eau de Coco. Available at Watsons, they retail at S$12.90.

Colourful, sparkly and juice-scented, they’re perfect for little girls who want to play dress-up with a gloss. I am highly disturbed by the name Lemon Incest, though – its negative connotation makes it inappropriate for the Hello Kitty association, plus what’s so incestuous about the lemon one, anyway? I think the person who thought of it probably got carried away and turned ‘lemon zest’ into something entirely different!

      Hi Meow,

The colours look lovely together but they really function like a clear gloss. Hope you’re doing well!

Mag, do you think is is worth buying?
I like hello kitty but honestly it’s only because of its cute packaging. Other than that I don’t think the color looks appealing.. :)

      Hi Meryl,

They’re not something I’d go for as I’m not a Hello Kitty fan. I was quite intrigued by the coloured appearance but though they’re quite glossy, they’re are mostly clear, with a smattering of glitter. (The glitter does show up on the lips, so if you don’t like that, best to stay away.)

Lemon incest has got to be the funniest and craziest product name ever! Laughing here to myself thinking about lemon families, haha. Is this long lasting?

      Hello Germs,

Tell me about it! It’s just so weird a name for a Hello Kitty product, of all things! Then again, there are some warped Hello Kitty products out there. :P

It’s not very long-lasting – as I’ve mentioned, it behaves much like an emollient lip balm. It’s not very sticky, though, which is a plus.

Lemon Incest? That’s just wrong. I’m hoping it’s a typo that went too far.
