Review | Maquillage Styling Eyes in BR743

Here’s a nice neutral palette from Shiseido Maquillage to take you from day to night.

In the palette are:

  1. A softly shimmery pink beige
  2. A slightly warm shimmery camel brown
  3. A shimmery silvery taupe
  4. A Swiss chocolate brown (think Toblerone!) with coloured sparkles
  5. A sparkly translucent peach

The colours are easy to wear, being largely complementary. I like how the warmth of the 2nd and 4th shades isn’t so overt that they clash with the rest. 1 is rather sheer but gives the eye a finished look. 2 is semi-sheer and makes a good contour shade. 3 is a pretty medium taupe that I like to use on the lid or in my socket indent. It can also be smoked up nicely. 4 can be used on the lids or on the lash line; its multi-coloured shimmer adding a nice sparkly touch. 5 can be placed in the inner corners of the eyes or on the centre of the mobile lid to open up the eyes.

They have varying levels of intensity that can be built up. The initial softness of tone of some these shades might deter people who love a good pigmented shadow but I think they will largely appeal to the office crowd because they aren’t heavy at first application and have a finesse that makes a polished eye. With 5 complementary hues, this shadow compact not only allows some measure of eyeshadow play, it also lends colour dimension to the eyes.

It comes with an applicator that has a rectangular sponge tip (C) which lets you draw soft or precise lines. Used with the chocolate shadow (5), it easily creates a soft smokey eye that can be gradually deepened. It’s perfect for easily transforming a subtle day-time eye look into a stronger night-time one.

As you can tell from the photo above, the colours meld beautifully into one another. I didn’t have to blend a lot when I was testing out my press piece; this is truly an effortless palette to work with.

In Singapore, this limited edition palette retails at S$69.

      Hi Jac,

Thank you! Maquillage has quite a strong following here because of its wearable colours with nice finely-milled shimmer.

Thanks for the review! When swatched on your arm, the eye shadows seem to be a huge glitter-fest. How much fall-out is there?

The design of the palette is quite a departure from their usual style…It kind of reminds me of Kate….but the colours look lovely…Very subtle and versatile indeed.

      Hi Beauty Box,

The fall palettes are also quite different, I believe!

Yes, there are hints of Kate. The raised windows on Kate shadow palettes make the brand look more expensive than it really is but the lightness of the plastic gives it away. That said, Kate palettes are S$27 (!) here and aren’t really that cheap.

I have been lemming for this :) The eye make up you created is so gorgeous dear! Too bad this is not as pigmented as I thought it would be. Maybe I should go to the counter and swatch it for myself.
