Sleek Makeup Glory i-Divine Palette

New from Sleek Makeup is Glory, a colourful palette from the brand’s 2012 Collection that celebrates the Summer Olympics being held in London this year.

Housed in an eye-catching box, Glory is tagged as a patriotic-themed palette to help you get into the spirit of the Games.

Like all the other i-Divine palettes, the eyeshadows rest in a slim black compact, only this one has its name specially printed on its cover.

With shades named after the beloved London Underground lines and corresponding to their route colour codes, this palette should appeal to Anglophiles and London lovers.

To be honest, my familiarity with the names of the London Tube lines is strongly influenced by Underground Ernie, a British children’s television series!

At first, I thought that the naming seemed a little incongruous with the ‘glory’ theme – the London Underground reminding me more of Neil Gaiman’s hypnotic Neverwhere – but then I realised that the brighter hues echo the colours of the Olympic rings, while the trio of bright yellow/silver/bronze represents medal colours (the image on the palette box is a giveaway!).

It’s a nice way to commemorate both the venue and the event. :)

1st row, left to right: Tube, Overground, Bakerloo, Jubilee, Platform Northern
2nd row, left to right: District, Hammersmith and City, Picadilly, Circle, Victoria, Central

As you can see from the swatches (no primer) below, they’re all shimmery, save for Platform and Central, the two satin mattes. Some shades are sheerer than others, requiring more layering to show up better but they mostly swatched smoothly. Among all the colours, Platform swatched the patchiest. I haven’t tried it on the eye yet, so I’m not sure about its actual performance.

Some of the shimmer shades veer on a frosty/metallic finish, while others are softly reflective. I love the array of rainbow brights and how easily they blend, as a whole.

Unlike previous Sleek palettes with the waffle print (I dislike how cheap that makes the palettes look), the powder in the pans of this compact does not loosen as easily and leave shadow dust everywhere.

Tube – pale gold
Overground – soft champagne
Bakerloo – copper brown
Jubilee – penny silver
Platform – mid-tone grey
Northern – blue-black

District – aqua green
Hammersmith & City – fuchsia
Piccadilly – bright ultramarine blue
Circle – golden yellow
Victoria – aqua
Central – Chinese New Year red!

Here’s a rainbow eye I did with my preview sample of Glory. With Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Flax as a base, I used 9 out of the 12 colours:

  • Central and Hammersmith and City on the mobile lid
  • Bakerloo and Circle on the socket indent
  • Overground from socket to brow bone
  • Tube to highlight the brow bone
  • Picadilly, Victoria and District on the lower lash line

Here’s the same look, with just a little more definition by way of a liquid liner.

The colours are quite pigmented and blend seamlessly into one another. As I was telling Iris, who also has a review of Glory, the look might seem startling close-up but it translates well on my single eyelids in real life – it’s a look I’ll wear out.

For subtler looks with this palette, do read Paris B’s lovely review of it.

The Sleek Glory Palette retails at £6.99 or £7.99 (depending on where you find it) and is only available for a limited period of time at Superdrug and on the Sleek website.
