Here is the Lily Cole Makeup Collection from The Body Shop.
Fronted by the model/activist who is the brand’s first global advocate, this collection is entirely free from animal-testing and animal by-products: No bug shells, clam shells or fish scales were used for iridescence (rather, mica gives the pearlised effects) and no animal hair was used for the applicators (synthetic hair was used instead).
Dressed in striking fuchsia packaging, this cruelty-free makeup collection comprises 10 items. Below are my thoughts on/swatches of the press pieces that I received.
Lily Cole Liquid Eye Liner in 20 Ink Up Violet (Violet Intense) (S$22.90)
Contrary to its name, this is a grape that dries down to a semi-matte/semi-metallic dusty purple. It makes an interesting eyeliner colour that complements the Lily Cole Shimmer Cubes but do note that while it dries quickly and seems smudgeproof, it isn’t waterproof – it will smear once in contact with water or tears.
Lily Cole Shimmer Cubes Palette 24 (S$36.90) with:
- 01 Think Pink (La Vie en Rose)
- 02 Live Lilac (Tendre Lilas)
- 03 Go Violet (Cap Sur Le Violet)
- 04 Tint it Pink (Rose Nature)
Made in Italy, the Shimmer Cubes Palettes are TBS collector items, thanks to their novelty and complementary shades. This particular offering will appeal to people who love pinks and purples. The colours have varying intensities but go on quite easily for the most part, blending nicely into one another.

- 03 Go Play (Rose Endiablé)
- 04 Go Pink (Cap Sur Le Rose!)
I love the formula of the Hi-Shine Lip Treatments – moisturising and slick, they feel really comfortable on my lips while imparting a beautiful lustre. A good friend of mine has very sensitive lips and breaks out in rashes with most lip products. This formula happens to be one that doesn’t affect her lips and one which she likes.
I was initially glad that thanks to this collection, more colours are now available but they are very sheer, unfortunately. Only 02 and 03 impart a slightly more visible coloured tint, the other two being practically transparent.
These petite squeeze tube glosses have a slant-tip nib for direct application.
Lily Cole Lip & Cheek Domes in 20 Pinch Me Pink (Rose de Rêve) and 21 Crazy for Coral (Tellement Corail) (S$24.90)
These cream-to-powder domes add soft, natural colour to the lips and cheeks. I love the shine of the domes, though in reality they have a satin texture. They might seem sheer at first swatch but are buildable to a medium finish. Reminiscent of the Shu Uemura Creamy Dome Cheeks (hardly surprising, given that TBS and Shu are under the Lóreal umbrella), they have one advantage over the higher-end version: Their caps unscrew properly!
Lily Cole Pearl Radiance Primer (S$32.90)
Although this brightening primer looks like it’s composed of pearly pink micro-spheres, the pump dispenses a viscous blob that has a slightly-cooling sensation when spread on the skin.
It takes a while to blend out but the ensuing glimmer is quite lovely, adding a subtle glow to the face.
Lily Cole Puff On Radiance (S$34.90)
Shimmery spheres within a sphere, the little balls (a mix of apricot, rose and pink pearl) add radiance and sheen to the complexion and décolletage with the smooth puff. The highlighting effect is more obvious than that of the primer.
This limited edition makeup collection is now available at all The Body Shop stores across the island.
And since this post is about a cruelty-free makeup collection, I thought I’d talk a little about the brand’s makeup brushes. Made entirely of synthetic fibres, these are really good makeup application tools, thanks to their firm yet soft quality which lends control – aiding blending – while diffusing colours well.
Though the brushes above were sent to me by the brand, I’ve purchased a few myself. I particularly like the Eyeshadow Brush (S$19.90) which I use regularly to apply concealer. It’s so indispensable to me that I have more than one (3 or 4, possibly!).
These brushes don’t get mentioned nearly enough, so I hope you try them and like them as much as I do. :)

the blush does seem like a dupe for Shu’s earlier release! and the puff on radiance, it looks like TBS’ version of coloured Guerlain Meteorites, and I think either Lavshuca/ Integrate launched something similar to this earlier this year…

Haha, yes, quite similar. :) I like the ball-balls, though – the colours are quite wearable and make a lovely highlighter.

I liked the Shimmer Cubes in their packaging but when swatched… the colors seemed a little sheer. The Cheek Domes look promising, very natural and lovely colors. :)

They will do well over an eyeshadow base. :) The Cheek Domes do have a slightly tacky feel but can be blotted for a more matte finish.
