Review | Givenchy Ombre à Fleur de Peau Luminescent Cream Eyeshadow in Pearly Nude, Rouge Interdit Shine in Delicate Brown and Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm

Here is a trio of makeup products from Givenchy that I received from the brand some time back as press pieces. The eyeshadow and lipstick are part of the Givenchy Été à Fleur de Peau collection for Summer 2012, while the balm is a new product from the Givenchy Hydra Sparkling range.

Givenchy Ombre à Fleur de Peau Luminescent Cream Eyeshadow in 2 Pearly Nude Shimmering Eyes (S$50) is a sparkly shadow housed in a chic plastic cube.

A peach-brown nude, it might seem rather warm-toned at first. However, it does lose that warmth and depth of tone when blended out. The eyeshadow feels delightful on the skin, thanks to its whipped gel-crème formulation and an almost-cool sensation.

As expected from such a formula, it applies silkily. It is perfect for people with dry lids but if you have oily lids, it will slide off when used on its own, contrary to the brand’s promise that it will last.

It doesn’t actually crease on me but its formula is pretty slick – it can be removed with one swipe with a tissue sheet or fingertip. However, it stays put over an eye primer and the glitter flecks are pretty tenacious once set over a good base.

The sparkles actually last many hours on me when I layer the cream over a clear primer and then layer powder shadows over it – I attribute this to the flatness of the glitter particles which aids adherence.

I particularly like using this shadow from lash to brow as a shimmery base for my other shadows – powder and cream – as the finely-milled multi-coloured micro-glitter (wow, hyphen galore :P) peeks prettily through the other shadows.

The shimmer-speckled translucent grey casing of Givenchy Rouge Interdit Shine in 28 Delicate Brown (S$42) is striking – the cubic edges I’m so fond of set it apart from the usual lipstick tubes.

A shimmery red brown, this limited edition lipstick has a touch of fig to keep it interesting.

The texture and finish remind me of Clarins Joli Rouge Brilliant lipsticks: Like them, it is infused with fine multi-coloured shimmer that glimmers prettily under the light.

This shade isn’t too warm on my skin tone and pairs nicely with smokey greens.

Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm Moisturizing Pearly Glow (S$49) is a translucent lip/cheek balm infused with subtle iridescent shimmer. It is new and not to be confused with the existing tinted lip and cheek balms.

Formulated with the brand’s Sparkling Water Complex®, it contains plumping moisturisers. Although it is meant for use on the cheeks to lend radiance, it seems a tad too sticky for that purpose (I can imagine it being used for editorial or runway looks, though). Where hygiene is concerned, I’m also not too fond of the pot packaging.

The coloured shimmer is barely discernible but it is a clearly reflective product on the lips and cheeks. The balm not only adds a lovely shine to my lips, it also makes them feel moist and very comfortable. I like that the product doesn’t just sit on my lips but is absorbed well. Its texture is also such that it can be worn beneath a lipstick without causing it to slide off easily.

It is very pricey for a minute pot, though I’d admit the formulation is quite superior.

In Singapore, Givenchy cosmetics can be found at Isetan Scotts, Metro Paragon, Metro Woodlands and Sephora Ion.
