Review | Ettusais Foamy Rich Mousse

A rich foam that feels dense and substantial, this new facial wash from Ettusais is a delight to touch and use.

With a ‘Bouncy Film Formula’ that keeps the foam resilient, it promises to clean without stressing the skin through unnecessary friction, as the ‘Microscopic Micro Mousse’ picks up sebum and impurities from the skin’s furrows and pores to deep-cleanse. The capitalised terms are so quaintly Japanese! :)

As with most (all?) Ettusais skincare products, this non-comedogenic/dermatologist-tested product is formulated with the brand’s AC Control Oil and bare skin conditioning agent for acne prevention.

The aerosol bottle is rather innovative: A flip lid prevents accidental compression of the nozzle and product wastage. I like how it cleanly dispenses dollops of the foam without leaving a dribbly trail, thanks to the supple nature of the cleanser.

I truly enjoy the plump spongy texture that makes cleansing my face a tactile pleasure. The mousse reminds me of a dense Japanese cheese cake; light yet full, if that makes sense. More accurately, it is very much like a rich whipped cream from a canister. :)

The creamy foam feels comfortable on the face, spreading easily and doesn’t feel too thick or thin in consistency. It washes off cleanly and doesn’t leave any residue on my skin. As with most foaming washes, my face looks clearer after use.

Containing an amino acid cleansing agent, it promises to remove makeup and impart the effect of double-cleansing, eliminating the need for a pre-foam cleanser such as a cleansing cream or oil. It can also be used as a mask, left on for no more than 2 minutes. However, I’ve only used it as a foaming cleanser, preferring my cleansing oils and cream masks for the other purposes. The brand claims that it can be used for face massage but I’m sceptical about this, unless they mean a quick under-2-minute kneading.

Despite being formulated with moisturising ingredients (hyaluronic acid, water-soluble collagen, glycerin), it does leave my skin feeling slightly tight – I need to apply a moisturiser or a hydrating lotion post-wash. It also has a lemon meringue scent that is shy of being cloying but the fragrance does not linger once the foam is washed off.

I have been enjoying my press bottle for the past few weeks and am likely to replenish it despite its drawbacks, simply because I love its cushiony feel and how it cleans well. :) In Singapore, this cleanser retails at S$32.
