La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Intense Soothing Care

Some time back, I was at Watsons looking to replace my Avène Cold Cream when the La Roche-Posay beauty advisor approached me with a smile.

Having had good experiences with several LRP products, I was happy to give her my time when she offered to introduce me to the brand’s range for sensitive skin.

It happened that the skin on my chin and jawline was dry and flaking then (no thanks to a spate of rashes and itching), hence my desire to replace the cold cream that I normally use. The Avène is very rich, so I was open to the LRP BA’s suggestion to try Toleriane Ultra Intense Soothing Care, a lighter cream.

Housed in a clear slim pump bottle, it has an intriguing packaging within the container – it actually resides in a bag that purportedly offers sterility.

Tested on allergic skin, its dressed-down formula contains Neurosensine, an active ingredient that ‘targets cutaneous irritation mechanisms’. The contents are reinforced with soothing La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.

This cream can be used all over the face – the eye area included – to soothe skin that’s ultra-sensitive or prone to allergies. True to its word (and the BA’s!), it offered my skin immediate relief, easing the itching and calming my rashes. It’s something I now reach for every time I experience a flare-up; its fairly-lightweight texture feels comfortable on my skin, plus I’m certain the sparse ingredient list reduces irritation.

That said, I have experienced mild breakouts/bumps with prolonged usage, despite its non-comedogenic formula. They might have coincided with hormonal changes but I’m inclined to believe the cream can be somewhat pore-clogging even as it soothes my skin. As such, I try not to be too reliant on it.

I like to pair it with the brand’s popular mist. The spray might seem just like plain old water but it has a softening and calming effect on my skin, even on ordinary days.

In Singapore, this face cream retails at S$39.90. I purchased it when Watsons was offering a 20% discount on LRP products, so I saved a significant amount. Do look out for these periodic sales, to stretch your skincare dollar. :)
