Lancôme Teint Miracle

Always at the forefront of beauty technology (it gave us liposomes and Pro-Xylane), Lancôme has developed a foundation based on its research on light theory and our skin’s reaction to light.

What is it?

With ten years of research behind it and seven patents pending, Teint Miracle (‘miracle foundation’ in English) is a base makeup product that promises to give radiance from within, recreating the aura of glowing skin. Lancôme compares this effect to light emanating from our skin.

How does it give us a lit-from-within complexion?

• Combining optical research with biology, Lancôme has developed Aura-Inside™ technology, a natural light creator composed of new-generation bioptic pigments and a ‘liquid light essence’. These special ingredients optimise the skin’s surface radiance and bring out the skin’s inner light.

• Thanks to their special structure, the bioptic pigments reproduce and boost the skin’s inner light. The pink bioptic pigment helps to restore radiance and deliver a healthy glow, while the blue bioptic pigment helps to restore purity and freshness.

• The liquid light essence works like liquid micro-mirrors to boost radiance.

Sounds good, yes? With these features, it’s no wonder I keep thinking of Lancôme Teint Miracle as Aura in a Bottle!

So what sets it apart from a regular light-reflecting foundation?

• Teint Miracle doesn’t just target skin illumination on the surface as other reflective/luminescent foundations do, it is also based on the way light behaves on and in our skin. Simply put, light is absorbed by our skin and part of it is reflected; the more light that is reflected gives our skin a glow and makes it look more radiant. However, dry/aging/tired skin does not allow light to reflect uniformly. Lancôme’s patented pigments go a step further than ordinary light-reflectors: they reproduce the reflection of natural inner light, based on the theory of light absorption and reflection (the science behind it involves the light spectrum and how it works with the collagen, melanin, haemoglobin in our skin).

• The particles in the liquid light essence are five times smaller than mother-of-pearl pigments traditionally used in light-reflecting foundations. As such, the skin looks luminous, not shiny. Unlike mother-of-pearl whose reflections are more irregular, the micro-particles diffuse light uniformly and offer better surface radiance.

• It has 10 times less opaque fillers and almost 40% pure water for natural coverage and correction.

• It contains a skincare complex with soothing rose extract (hence the light rose fragrance in the foundation) for hydration and skin luminosity.

I’ve tried it and am impressed by its performance. I like how well it wears and that special glow that Lancôme promises really seems to be apparent (you can see it on me in my MAC Fabulous Felines event post).

How much is it?

Priced at S$65, this 30 ml bottle isn’t as expensive as I’d thought it’d be. The crystal/silver packaging from cap to bottle reflects the clarity the foundation promises to deliver and is a classy item to have on a makeup counter top.

What else?

As a complement to this foundation, Lancôme has also created Multi-Lights Touch Corrector Bare Skin Perfection Pen (S$56/2.5 ml), a concealer/highlighter, using the same technology.

Last thoughts?

I am impressed that the company has put so much research into a cosmetic item; skincare products tend to receive more attention. Clearly, Lancôme is intent on refining its makeup to complement its popular skincare ranges.

Made in Japan, Teint Miracle will be available in seven Asian shades (only five are in the photo) in Singapore. This non-comedogenic foundation is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Interestingly, it contains SPF 16 – an unusual value and one up from the SPF 15 that the US version has. Odd! The first country in the Asean country to launch Teint Miracle, Singapore will introduce this foundation at Isetan on 17 September 2010. It will then be available at Robinsons and finally at all counters in October.
