I recently received the Metro Privilege/Gift Card, a stored value/discount/privilege card. I’d let my regular Metro Card membership lapse many years back and had relied on the UOB Card thereafter but was delighted to find out about this card because it is actually value for money, when you consider its application mechanics.
The beauty of it is that rather than accumulate S$300 worth of Metro receipts within three consecutive months (the ordinary way to apply for the Metro Card), all you have to do is store a minimum value of S$380 in this card and you’re good to go – you receive the membership privileges, benefits and discounts immediately upon activation of the card…and the money is yours to spend, even during Metro’s 20% storewide sale events! You’re not required to top up the card, if you don’t want to; it is valid for two years, privileges and all, even if the stored value is used up.
I appreciate the fact that you can easily fill up a form online and bring it down to the store to expedite the application – it saves the hassle of fumbling with pens and such at the customer service counter. :P
Here are the benefits of this card, similar to the regular Metro card:
- A year-round 10% discount and a 20% discount during your birthday month (these discounts are only applicable on merchandise with a blue price tag, indicated with a blue dot*)
- Exclusive card member promotions such as special discounts and purchases
- Special invites to exclusive Metro events such as sale previews and card member events
Although I like to shop at Metro during its sale periods, I have used my old Metro Card on regular days, taking advantage of the year-round 10% discount, especially when I wanted to buy beauty gifts for friends. This card actually brings back fond memories for me.
I’m looking forward to using my card very soon…during Metro Ladies’ Night this Friday (19 November 2010), to be precise, because there will be a 20% storewide discount then! To celebrate this event, Metro will be putting up five pairs of Tweezerman tweezers for a giveaway on Makeup Stash!, so do look out for that. ;)
