MAC Glitter & Ice Haul

It’s been a while since I’ve hauled from MAC, so this MAC Holiday 2011 collection was a welcome one to peruse. Based on the multi-coloured facets of snow and ice, Glitter & Ice sees a plethora of sparkly shades.

I purchased:

MAC Paint Pot in For Effect (S$35) – A creamy blackened charcoal with a host of multi-coloured micro-shimmer.

MAC Dazzleglass in She-zam (S$37) – A greyed-silver with loads of finely-milled glitter. The fuchsia sparkles give it a hint of mauve and I like that I can wear this on its own.

MAC Nail Lacquer in Unconditionally Fabulous (S$23) – A sparkly snow globe in a bottle. The round and hexagonal glitter bits remind me of a certain crinkly decorative cellophane. It’s pretty enough on its own but it will sparkle-ise and spiff up other nail hues when used as an overcoat.

The prices are slightly elevated, no thanks to the white packaging. Nonetheless, I’m glad the cap of the polish is shiny plastic and not that rubbery/plastic hybrid which tends to degenerate like NARS compacts.

The complete range of the Mineralize Eye Shadows in the Glitter & Ice collection have yet to arrive.

Also available at the counter are the Nordstrom-exclusive Festive Frost Face Kit and the Ice Parade sets. The palettes are so Clinique! Given that MAC and Clinique are both under Estée Lauder, I did wonder if they’d been produced at the same place. :P

Makeup musings aside, I’m certain these palettes will sell well, as they will appeal to people who enjoy complementary sets. I particularly like the shadow combination in the Cool Fabulously Festive Face Kit (on the right in the last photo) – it has a brown that can double up as a brow colour too.

All the sets are priced at S$110, I believe. Kudos to the MAC staff who set up the displays. According to Javen, the counter manager at Tangs Orchard, the display structures were shipped to them without building and product placement instructions, so they’d spent several hours putting them together.

Here is a closer look at the raised dome set into the palettes. Like a snow globe, the silver glitter is suspended in a liquid, drifting and swirling when the compact is tilted or moved about. A touch gimmicky but a fun product to own, nonetheless.

As with all MAC holiday collections, these products are limited edition…you might see them resurface at an Estée Lauder or MAC sale, though. ;) That said, I was told that these are very limited in quantities, so the likelihood of that happening is slim. If you like something, just buy it; there’s no knowing if you’ll ever be able to find it again. It’s ok to splurge for the holidays, anyhow! :)
