I had a sneak preview of the Shiseido makeup collection for Fall 2010 yesterday and a spread of pretties greeted me as soon as I stepped into the preview room.
Dick Page, Shiseido’s artistic director, created this visual feast of striking palettes by drawing inspiration from his photos of ‘landscapes around the world and casual sights’. He was extremely exacting in pinning down the finish, texture and tone of each shadow pan, meticulously fine-tuning each colour to make sure that the finished product captured even the smallest shadow subtlety he desired.
Smooth and silky like the Luminizing Satin Eye Color singles, a few of the shadow pans have an almost creamy texture that reminds me of the new Anna Sui autumn duos. Several of these three-pan palettes also uncannily resemble the old Kesalan Patharan Face Color trios, both in texture and colour combination.
What do I love about them? Their complementary and contrasting shades, their soft-to-touch texture and their blendability. I also love that they are inspired by the nuances the makeup maestro had captured in his snapshots, translating them into these pans of shimmery, wearable hues.
Several of the shades are very pigmented too – Tropicalia is a swatcher’s dream, the orange and greyed pearl in Fire are richly intense, while the middle green shade in Jungle shows up beautifully on the skin.
Each palette has a retail price of S$51 and will be available at local counters from September 2010. My swatch photos didn’t turn out well but I might have some new ones to post them later. For now, I hope you enjoy these pictures of the individual trios.

Mag, I went to see the trios. I like Tropicalia(actually donno what to do w the green, like the other 2) & I actually love the texture of the es but I have most of the cols in the other palettes so end up walking away. Also I was lugging my heavy laptop but I will go back coz the beauty bonus is still on. I like Opera too but looks a lil dirty?

The green can be quite bright…maybe pair it with a grey to tone it down (that’d dirty it up though!). Pairing it with a gold is good too. Opera is the best-selling trio locally! ;)
