First Purchase of 2011 – Katy Perry for OPI Nail Lacquer in Black Shatter

After saying goodbye to 2010 with a Bourjois shadow, I welcomed 2011 with OPI Nail Lacquer in Black Shatter (S$23.50 at BHG and Metro). Tagged as a ‘deep asphalt black with a “shattered” texture’, this polish creates a crackle effect when applied over other polishes: A coat of the creamy black liquid recedes into patches and streaks once applied over polished nails that are completely dry. I like the easy creative play it offers and the random abstract patterns it creates on the nail surface.

This shows up best over a light polish but I decided to apply it over the prismatic DS Glamour from the OPI Designer Series.

snap, crackle, pop!

These are not the best of nail pics (how I envy the precise polish application and the photo clarity of many nail blogs!) but you get the idea. The crackle is more animal print than shatter in this manicure – the shatter only seems to show up best on my left ring finger. It dries matte and you could leave it that way, if you so desire. I like the patent appearance a shiny topcoat gives it, though. I look forward to playing more with this fun overcoat; may the new year be as effortlessly artistic as this polish! ;)
