First Impressions Review | Diorshow New Look Mascara

Given my hooded lids and lash sparsity, my eyelashes aren’t the best for showcasing mascara. However, I like the new Dior mascara so much that I have to share it with you.

I hadn’t intended to write about it but despite my telling them this, the brand’s PR company insisted I try it because they really like the product. I actually only received a deluxe-sized sample as press samples of this were scarce. I’m glad I tried it, though.

While the original Diorshow has a super-sized brush, the New Look version has a nano-brush. This lengthening mascara with mini rubber bristles holds a curl fairly well, yet can be removed easily with a water-based cleanser like Mandom Cleansing Express (now renamed Bifesta). I’d peg it as water-resistant – it has yet to smudge on me and its tubular fibres don’t seem to smear at all.

It visibly lengthens my lashes, its depth of colour (thanks to the trademarked Dior Black Glass pigment) giving them definition. It layers quite nicely and is buildable, the fibres adding instant volume and blackness. However, too many layers will result in weighed down and spidery-looking lashes.

I wish I had a better photo of its excellent results but my hidden/puny lashes make lamentable ‘after’ pics, sorry! The pre- and post-mascara contrast is quite remarkable to me, nonetheless. I’m not alone in my praise – I’m told that beauty editors of our local print media love this mascara too. ;)

The formula is quite interesting. Like the brand’s Rosy Glow in Petal blush, its ‘intelligent texture’ reacts with body heat.

According to the brand:

At the heart of its performance lies an exceptional dermo-fusional agent. Its first miracle property is to repair, in the manner of a ceramide, the damaged parts of the fibre, by infiltrating the slightest gap to re-texturise the lash. Each lash appears immediately thickened and perfectly smooth.

Its second revolutionary property is to react to body heat to fluidify the texture on contact with the eyelid, allowing the serum to release its potent active ingredients as close as possible to the lash line. Enriched with fortifying and energising royal jelly extract, the treatment serum acts at all stages of the lash life cycle, complementing the make-up effect. As time passes, lashes are reinforced and display a thicker and thicker fringe.

I have a bunch of mascaras currently waiting in the wings but I’m going to consider the full-sized version of this once I’ve gone through them. If you’re open to trying a new high-end mascara, this is worth a go. In Singapore, this mascara retails at S$52 and is part of the permanent makeup range.

I bought this last week at Takashimaya after my mega-makeover and I’m really impressed, even more so than the original Dior Show. My lashes are dark and a reasonable length, but this really blackens them and thickens them too. I’m usually a Maybelline or freebie mascara wearer, but this mascara is awesome!

Half the counter! *blush* I bought:
    – new Dior Addict Extreme in Plaza
    – lipliner to match (Candy Rose)
    – blush in Rose Dragee
    – 5 Coleurs in Amber Design (love this)
and got some BB cream, Diorshow and night cream samples.
Very spoiled – Australian service and gift with purchase will never compare (and nor will the prices!)

What an awesome haul, Sam! I need to check out the new Dior Addict Extreme – I saw two lovely berries online and want to see them in real life. I like the Diorsnow BB cream a lot – it has excellent coverage. Hope you like it too. :)
