Lipstick Queen Chinatown Glossy Pencil in Mystery

July 3, 2009

I won this lovely Chinatown Glossy Pencil (US$20, including a sharpener) from a Lipstick Queen Facebook contest and was thrilled when it finally arrived this week! The concept is adorable and the product, together with the packaging, is impressive.

The chic little box portrays a scene from the movie that inspired the collection, I believe. Very film noir, no? Everything is extremely well made – the glossy black pencil casing is sturdy with clear white English and Chinese words printed cleanly on the sides, while the accompanying sharpener feels firm and even bears the brand’s name. The white-on-black theme is well-suited to its inspiration. :)

Mystery may look like a crazy purple in the web swatch but it is really a soft berry. Buildable and incredibly smooth, this cool-toned shade is rather versatile: when worn sheer, it is very much my-lips-but-better; when layered, it is a beautiful pop of colour on my MAC NC 20-25 skin tone. The formula is amazing – I’m still trying to figure out how it can impart such glide and glossiness while the nib remains firm!

Thank you Lipstick Queen for this fabulous makeup lovely. I wish that you would make your way to Singapore very soon; I can’t wait to see the entire range in person! :)
