Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in RD514 Dragon

Thanks to my MAC Venomous Villains haul, I had a S$25 Tangs voucher to spend at the Tangs Beauty Hall. After scouring the counters, I decided to purchase Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in RD514 Dragon (S$43) for my mummy.

An incredibly smooth lipstick as all Shiseido Perfect Rouges are, Dragon is a beautiful classic red that would work well with many skintones. Unsurprisingly, it has been featured in several beauty mags. I particularly the name!

I’d given one to my mother-in-law for Mother’s Day and she sweetly lent me her tube to swatch for this post (I’d forgotten my cam when I swatched it at the counter). Can you see how moist this lipstick is? Like silk, I tell you!  It is creamy without being too emollient, so it is unlikely to feather – a much welcome feature in a red lipstick as strong as this one. It is fragrance-free too and will appeal to those who cannot tolerate scents in lippies.

Dragon is a nice balance of warm and cool. I wouldn’t call it neutral; it will come off a tad on the warm side  – then again, red itself is classified as a warm hue in colour theory – but the scarlet tones are countered by its cool tones. It doesn’t pull fuchsia (that would be Shiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick in RD516 Cerise) and although you can’t see it in this skin swatch, you will discern deep berry tones when it is swatched on paper. I suppose it is this complexity that lends this lipstick a special quality. This, together with its satin finish, is tempting me to purchase one for myself! ;)
