Review | DHC Acne Care Base Makeup UV Protection Milk SPF 50 PA++

Packaged in a petite white bottle with a green cap, this tinted sunscreen is quite the little wonder. Lightweight, smooth and oil-controlling, I’ve been reaching for it ever so often these hot and humid days.

The colour is a light beige that is sheer enough to suit more than one Asian skin tone. Like the DHC Suncut Q10 Light Touch sunscreen, it has an initial moist texture, applying smoothly and evenly. It is non-greasy after application and dries down well (it might be a touch too matte for people with dry/dehydrated skin, though). I love how it casts a diaphanous veil over my skin.

Although it doesn’t have a lot of coverage, it feels like second skin, making my face look just a notch better. Best of all, it controls sebum production for me. I oil up even in air-conditioned environs but my makeup is near-pristine even with several hours in air-conditioned areas, plus an hour or so outdoors and in a non-air-conditioned room.

A caveat, though: Like many Japanese sunscreens, this one contains a fair amount of alcohol. So if you’re sensitive to this ingredient, it’s best to steer clear of this product.

This product doesn’t impart an unseeming white cast, although it can be masky over certain bases. As such, I choose to use it on its own.

In the photo above, I’ve been wearing the sunscreen – paired with a light dusting of MAC Blot Powder applied with the MAC 150 big powder brush – for more than 6 hours without any blotting or touch-ups. Testimony to its staying power, no? (Eyes are the new Sleek Makeup Oh So Special Eyeshadow Palette, while the lips are Lipstick Queen Goodbye paired with Shiseido Alabaster Shimmering Rouge)

Exclusively available at Watsons, this sunscreen weighs 30 ml and retails at S$31. This was a press sample but I like it so much, I’ll probably purchase another bottle on my own when I’m done with this one!
