Lovelies on the Loose | January – March 2009

I’m not the kind of makeup lover who rips open new purchases immediately. Often, I like to savour their packaging, pristine appearance and newness, before keeping them for future stash shopping. This usually makes for a makeup lift – a surprise always turns up when I go through my collection. However, since the year began, I’ve uncharacteristically opened more than a few newly-purchased items…and relished every moment of it~!

Once more, neatly!

So, what have I opened?

  • Daiso D Makeup Corrector

I haven’t tried it on my face yet but this twist-up clear pencil containing beeswax is a neat idea for makeup correction.

  • Daiso Eyelash Curler

The hinge on the handles allow them to go much wider than standard curlers. I imagine that this would be good for people with deep-set eyes. I have flatter eyes so I don’t extend them all the way. They give a very decent curl for S$2!

I love how firm the dome is; it gives me great delight to swirl my brushes on it. The gorgeous mélange of colours is a joy to look at, as well.

Fasio Hyper Stay Shock Free Curl Long and Curl Volume Mascaras in 001 Black

Newly opened, I’m sure they will impress as much as their predecessor, Power-Stay 3D+ Air Tech, which I took to Bangkok.

The pewter is perfect as a smokey-eye lid shade, as well as an eyeliner. It transforms charcoal and brown eye pencils, imparting a touch of the modern and the unique to otherwise ordinary liners.

  • Jill Stuart Jelly Eye Color in 02 Gemstone Green

Sparkly goodness! This complex green with its copious amount of multi-dimensional shimmer will thrill anyone with a penchant for twinkly makeup.

  • Kesalan Patharan Powder Eyebrow in #2

A staple for my brows, both colours in this brow duo complement my Asian skin and dark hair. They also allow me to create varying brow hues and intensities.

A stunning smokey-eye palette that is absolutely easy to wear!

  • Lise Watier Couleur Folle (Loose Powder Eyeshadow – Mineral) in Folie Or Blanc

The pigments from this line are amazing when foiled.

  • Lise Watier Rouge Sublime Lipstick in Coco

A gift from MEMMU 2008, this is a pretty plum shade.

A great your-lips-but-better nude gloss. I really like how it hugs the lips and adds shine to them.

  • Naris Up Cosmetics Eye Color Base

This was a surprise find at John Little. Don’t be fooled by the darkness of the colour – it is a true nude and almost translucent. I like how easy it is to use and how it keeps my eyeshadows true.

  • Shiseido Integrate Pencil Eyes in BK981 and BR691

Aside from Make Up For Ever Pearly Waterproof Eye Shadow Pencils, I love these fatty pencils from Integrate. Waterproof, pigmented and smooth, they are excellent on the lid, lash lines and waterlines!

  • Too Faced Shadow Insurance

It was so hard to get this in Singapore but thanks to more makeup kindness, I was able to own it. Fully deserving of its accolades, I especially like how it brings out the delicate glimmer of Make Up Store’s Micro Shadow in Sunbreeze – the shadow looks beautifully diaphanous over it.

Delving into these new things brought a certain joy and I look forward to seeing more lovelies – new and old – on the loose. Stash shopping, here I come! ;)

Hi there, I’ve the most oily lids ever and I’m wondering if you can advise on how lasting the Naris Up Eye Color Base is.
UDPP works for me but MAC Paint doesn’t :(

Today I lined my lashes with MJ Jeweling Pencil – no primer nor e/s used – and the lines migrated to the crease. How oily is that!

    Hi Miss.E,

I’m sorry to say that the Naris doesn’t dry down very well. They’re great for intensity but with the slip they have, I don’t think they’d last on your oily lids.

Have you tried Too Faced Shadow Insurance?

MAC Paints (in the tubes, not the jars) actually work very well on me.

Have you tried patting your lids with a ply of tissue before application of eye products? You could also dust them with loose powder before applying primer.

The MJ Jewelling Pencils don’t last well. Look out for pencils with the black wood casing (I *think* it’s wood but it could very well be plastic, looking at the uniform grain). Those stay on much better than the ones with beige/pink ones.

Try MAC Powerpoint, UD 24/7, Prestige Waterproof, Gosh Velvet Touch and Bourjois Clubbing Contour.

Thanks for your tips! Read a lot of good reviews on Too Face Shadow Insurance, will try that when I’m done with my UDPP.
Yeah, mine’s the MAC Paints tube.

Btw, I’ve just got the Springheart eyeliner and it’s been holding well.

    Hey Yumeko,

I will let you know! :) Is the Kose one any good?

  • makeupmag says:

    Hi Miss.E,

You’re welcome! I hope you find a happy solution. :)

Thanks for letting me know about Springheart. I’ve wondered about this brand. Are you referring to the pencil or liquid liner?

You could also try liquid liners from Majolica Majorca and K-Palette – good reviews, overall!

  • Miss.E says:

I’ve got the Springheart pencil; am just terrible with liquid liners. Didn’t manage to get the black but I’m really happy with the dark brown :)

  • makeupmag says:

    Miss.E,

    Dark browns are staples! ;)

hi, where do you get lisa watier make-up in SG? I’m looking for their concealer color wheel!

  • makeupmag says:

    Hi Anon,

A friend from Canada gave me that lipstick. I wrote about it here: http://www.makeupstash.com/2009/03/merry-emakemeup-2008-receiving.html

As far as I know, Lise Watier isn’t available in Singapore, sorry.
