Thanks to Iris and her magazine updates, I managed to buy the inaugural Penhaligon’s mook (S$36.70) at Kinokuniya when I visited the bookstore recently.
I can’t read Japanese but the mook seems to be a product catalogue of sorts for this established perfume brand (including a focus on limited edition packaging), celebrating its 142 years in the fragrance industry.
The ‘Penhaligon’s Fragrance Floors’ spread is particularly eye-catching with its illustrations imbued with the Penhaligon’s whimsy, neatly categorising the scents for customer reference.
The highlight of the mook is the pouch duo included with the publication.
These pouches – or multi-cases, as they’re called in Japan – are extremely well-made. In a gorgeous chocolate background with an iridescent finish, they are well-sewn with hidden seams (no choppy hems or loose threads in sight!). The large one, which is especially roomy, measures H20 × W26 × D4.5 cm; while the smaller one, suitable for coins or a small digital camera measures H10.5 × W13 × D2.5 cm.
What really distinguishes these lovely cases are the charming Penhaligon’s fragrance label prints. I like the quaint designs and fonts that grace the Penhaligon’s scent flaçons and was thrilled to see them in this form. I’m not particularly fond of the pale coral bow but that detail is unsurprising, given the brand’s much-beloved and distinctive bow detail on its fragrances.
Even the interior is a lovely rich brown. The quality of these pouches certainly befits the brand they represent. With their excellent material and delightful print, they are worth every cent I’d paid for the mook.

Ooh, I’d been in two minds as to whether I was going to buy it, but the pouches are just lovely!

This looks really cute! I’m on the lookout for makeup pouches, so thanks for sharing!

Hi Roxanne,
You’re welcome. Iris (Rouge Deluxe) was the one who wrote about them first! I’m glad she posted about them; I love the pouches!
The quality of the material and stitching looks good in the photo. The pouches are so lovely! :)
