MAC Spring/Summer 2011 Trends

At the recent MAC Spring/Summer 2011 trend presentation for the local press, MAC Senior Artist Romero Jennings unveiled the makeup trends for the upcoming beauty seasons.

Eclectic yet cohesive in their artistic intent, the MAC SS2011 trends are as follows:

Terra Copper

Terra Copper emphasises metallic, copper, bronze finishes. As the name suggests, earthy, sandy, beachy tones dominate.

Romero recommended adding texture for interest. To that end, he applied MAC Lipglass in Secret Identity (a bronze) to the model’s lips to add shine to the otherwise velvet finish of the look.

He also highlighted the fact that technology enables products to perform more than one task, as he whipped out Superslick Liquid Eye Liner in Pure Show (a bright, pearlised yellow gold) and applied it as a shadow over the model’s lids for a wet and metallic look that stayed put.

Raw Fined

Raw Fined is all about perfecting, sculpting and highlighting the skin. Using the MAC Lightful range which only recently became more easily available in North America, skin is able to look good, yet real. The  makeup look is monochromatic: tone on tone, using the same product.

For this look, Romero used MAC Eye Kohl in Fascinating (a pure white) to open up the eyes and MAC Lipglass in Emancipation (a flesh-toned shade) for a neutral lip. ‘Natural, casual, easy’ seemed to be the essence of this look and Romero reiterated the value of easy, touchable makeup. He also mentioned how makeup technology today allows makeup to last/stay the same without smearing or changing easily.

Pop Classics

For MAC, Pop Classics is all about vibrating colour. In Romero’s words, it is ‘happy like spring’. For this trend, neon lips, bright eyes and full-on makeup take centrestage. At the recent New York fashion shows, the brand advocated mixing colours for fashion.

To create this cheerful look, Romero used MAC Cremeblend Blush in Ladyblush, the MAC Lady Justice Eyeshadow Quad from the Wonder Woman collection, MAC Lipglass in Paint It On (an opalescent beige) over MAC Lipstick in Marquis d‘ (a wearable peach) and MAC Opulash. He stressed the mixing of textures, as he added sheen from MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl to the upper cheekbone area, to contrast with the matte lashes.

Ice Dreams

Ice Dreams conjures up images of soft-serve ice cream and flowers; sherbet neutrals mixed with bright pastels. Candy colours like lavender, seafoam green and tealy green are in the forefront – colour is back! :) This trend is also about pastel neutrals applied in an ‘organic way’ (unstructured, with no harsh lines).

Using the grey and deep blue in the Lady Justice palette, Romero created this unique ‘frosty chilly in the summer’ eye look. He then used MAC Lipglass in Paint It On over MAC Lipstick in Marquis d’ again on the lips. Here, he also mentioned the bleached brows trend that never seems to go away. :)

With more than 25 years of experience in the beauty industry, Romero Jennings was specially flown in by MAC Singapore to impart his makeup knowledge to local makeup artists.

Here are some of the MAC products that he used during the presentation.

And here are the MAC brushes that he wielded to create makeup magic! ♥
